As typical Indians, we can never say no to a good movie, right? Movies are celebrated in India like in no other country and we make our stars as our idols. Another one of our favourite things that bring together people across all states and divisions is good food. Our country has a history of amazing food that is diverse, flavourful and delicious.

Now, what if we combined our love for food and our love for good movies? Hollywood has some amazing movies that dealt directly or indirectly with food such as Ratatouille, Chef, etc. So, how can we Indians fall behind? Lunchbox

This movie took us into the life of a wife who uses good food to woo her husband who doesn’t give her attention. The movie has ‘dabbawalas' of Mumbai playing an important role and shows how an unexpected relationship blossoms as they wrongly deliver the food sent by the wife to a stranger in a boring desk job. The delicious food that she cooks becomes the highlight of the stranger’s life and it sure does make for a great movie for food lovers.

Luv Shuv Tey Chicken Khurana

This is a movie about a Punjabi family that runs a popular restaurant. So, it is no surprise that the movie really teases our taste buds with mentions of yummy food and recipes. The movie takes us on a journey of the protagonist trying to find out the secret recipe for his Daarji’s chicken curry and explores how food is an integral part of people’s lives.

Cheeni Kum

This heartwarming movie begins with a chef (played by Amitabh Bachchan) trying to impress a lady (Tabu) with his signature Hyderabadi Zafrani Pulao and failing to do so. Giving us a detailed picture of how a man manages to run a commercial kitchen and all the difficulties he faces, there is a constant undertone of good food in the film. From authentic ‘maa ke haath ka khaana’ to great-looking delicacies whipped by the protagonist of the film, it is a treat all the way for the viewers.

Stanley Ka Dabba

Tiffin boxes that we took to school as kids were probably the most nostalgic part of our food memories. This endearing movie is about a boy, Stanley, who yearns for good food that his teacher brings in tiffin boxes every day. As the story of Stanley is unveiled, you see that he is a poor boy who works in a dhaba and is surrounded by good food but is seldom able to enjoy it. You will start to appreciate food so much more when you see it through young Stanley’s eyes.
